Hatteras Prisoners

Little damage was done to the forts on August 28th, the first day of the battle.. Most of the casualties occurred in the afternoon when Fort Clark, closest to the Federal fleet,attempted to escape down the narrow causeway to Fort Hatteras after the cannons ran out of ammunition.
